Martha Skye Murphy is an experimental vocalist and musician using genre and vocal metamorphosis to dislocate and immerse listeners within encoded narratives. Unpredictable, theatrical and tender, her debut album, ‘Um’, was released in June 2024 to critical acclaim with label AD93.
The dexterity of her instrument and a desire to push boundaries have stimulated collaborations with Nick Cave, Squid, LEYA, Roy Montgomery, claire rousay, More Eaze, Gentle Stranger, Maxwell Sterling, Marta Salogni, among others.
Murphy’s live shows are intimate and affecting while being staged as spectacles. She has performed internationally at festivals, churches and concert halls such as ReWire, Pitchfork, Full of Lava, Grauzone, MENT, Kiezsalon<>IKLEKTIK, Heart of Noise, and De Thomaskerk. In 2022, Murphy premiered her electronic opera, ‘Postcards Home’, at The Southbank Centre.
Beyond her music, Murphy is a writer and podcast producer.
